Desert Mission Taste

particular period for me, and I took the opportunity to fly over the Mediterranean to discover new flavors and new peoples. The goal was Tozeur, a city of about fifty thousand inhabitants in the south of Tunisia . The fortunes of this trip was to be accompanied by a Tunisian by birth but cosmopolitan by choice that was able to guide us with wisdom and discretion in the Arab world.

December with flowers, warm and the sun is already a good thing, and when you add the discovery of new places, starts well!
Tozeur is an oasis in the barren landscape inland of Tunisia, its characteristics are the dates, the houses decorated with exposed brick walls and nearby salt lakes.
Upon our arrival we took a ride in a city park and drank the traditional mint tea combined with a fresh water pipe (SISA), I immediately hit the lush bougainvillea and jasmine plants with their colorful flowers decorated the palm grove.

During our stay of 5 days, we were able to visit the few points in which water flows and that allowed permanent human settlements, including the source of mountain Chebika , the oasis of Tamerza , canyon Mides and other villages nearly destroyed by floods and earthquakes.

Water is the problem of Africa and Zaafrane I saw a mining system truly worthy of note, a cool building that the precious liquid that flows out of 3 km of prodondità at a temperature of 60 ° C , mighty!

Other goals were achieved the salt lakes Chott el-Gharsa and Chott el-Jerid . Dire
salt lakes is an understatement, because it happens rarely that are covered with water and the maximum that our guide had seen was 50 inches deep, but the landscape is charming, white and blue in above the ground is "crunchy" and seems to walk on the biscuits. White was stranded in the wilderness years ago a bus that salt and time have not pardoned.

A Tozeur worth a visit to Dar Cheraït , the Museum of Arts and traditions that a faithful reconstruction of a cross-section of middle-class life in the past. I personally think that the architecture and decoration Muslim have a special charm, I was thrilled to discover the search for geometric patterns that adorn the interiors of homes.
is also a tourist, but sometimes we must make do, the horse-drawn carriage ride to see at a slow pace, the life of the natives. We discovered the palm grove and the system of agriculture that is carried by the Roman domination, that is from the top: date palms, fruit trees (peaches, citrus, pomegranates, figs and grapes) and vegetables. While the herd is kept in pens or grazed in the underbrush that lies outside the oasis in the vast plains.

Typical architecture of Tozeur with clay bricks, with their geometric designs that represent the professions of the owners or uses.

The markets were all similar, because the tourism brought a request to forcibly typical products (bowls, rugs and hookah), but in hidden alleys you see sellers of bread with the cart, butchers displaying the heads of animals killed, cooks sardines grilled on the side of the sellers of these and other features that we have lost to Western consumers to follow the way of aesthetics hypocrite.

Desert, true goal of this mission.
Incredible! As long as you're not there you do not realize it.
Fine sand, so intangible that seems to liquid, in fact, the stretch of dunes that constantly moves is called Erg, that sea of \u200b\u200bsand, at some point you sink to the knee and the other dune is compact and cold. The only point of reference is the sun and is the only thing that you should not watch.
And silence, all sounds are muffled dall'increspatura sand.
Knowing that I could return at any moment, I calmed and I understand why all the great conquerors withdrew in the face of so much "nothing".

Food! I must be honest, I really liked (but I never made anything, he never refused a scope), but some dishes were really special.
for example, a trio of finely cut vegetables as entrees, some cooked ( Chakchouka resulting from French ratatouille), and others served cold and flavored with mint and lime. Or Brik , cylinders fried, stuffed with eggs, or tuna and vegetables, not forgetting the Couscous by different seasonings, but cooked in Gargoulette typical terracotta jar. But the dates were
standard part, which best represent the country. Sweet!
